The gas and water systems are now largely installed, together with the build of a brand new bathroom configuration. Connection of the taps and pump, partitioning and bath surround are the biggest collection of jobs started but not completed.
The galley is now virtually complete with the cooker and fridge back in the boat and simply needing connecting to electrics and gas. Old bunk beds have been painted and partially re-assembled, that needs completing. Similarly the new storage unit is in place with the empty personal gear boxes.
There is now a wider gap down the centre of the boat, much better for those of us with a wider girth. Also the removal of the chains and the extra four inches of height under the cross planks is saving the working party members’ backs.
The electrics still need to be completed with wiring to the cooker and bilge pump. The lights are now in place through the boat and mains electric re-installed.
Bilge, water and shower drain pumps need to be refitted rewired and re-plumbed.
Remainder of the general gear from Brook St needs to be brought on board, including mattresses, but the plastic chairs and Z beds have been brought down for trial fit in the new configuration.,
David Stott has made a start on a good clean out of the back cabin and all its drawers/cupboards etc. which will need doing again as we get closer to going. Pat Empsall is completing the tidy up, this Friday, including putting up all lace and plates. Nick has taken away the drop down door to repair and will refit on Wednesday
Before we go to the National we need to load coal and a delivery of three tons has been arranged for this week, with loading planned for Saturday.
Most of the jobs this week are a bit technical, so if you are of a mind to come and help, next Saturday would be ideal as more hands make coal loading easy.
If not, there will be people at the boat from Wednesday onwards so come along, I am sure there will be things to do. Even if it’s just cleaning the exteriors of both boats before we set off on Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing you at the BCLM, out on the Cut or on the way to the National.
